Fully in trend - for your individual and adapted strength training

Dumbbells and barbells are an essential part of strength training and belong to the basic equipment in strength training! Whether beginner or advanced - the weight can be increased slowly and continuously. Thus, more and more muscle mass and muscle strength is built. Barbells have the advantage of strengthening all muscle groups, improving strength endurance and burning a lot of calories. Dynamic movement sequences can be easily incorporated into the training and the training plan can be individually adapted. This keeps the workout varied.

For your home gym

The most important accessories for weight bars are weight plates. The correct bore is important. For barbell and dumbbell training, there are many different dumbbell racks that make training more comfortable and safe. To perform squats with the barbell bar, we recommend a squat rack: this increases safety immensely. A weight bench is also an effective tool, with special grips you can increase the handle diameter and train even more efficiently.

For dumbbell training, there are free weights in various designs and weight classes - from dumbbells, to barbells and gymnastics dumbbells, to kettlebells.

For aerobics and gymnastics classes, short dumbbells or kettlebells with a plastic cover have proven their worth. They lie well in the hand and increase the intensity of the respective fitness exercise. Aerobic dumbbells are available in different weight classes. The lightest version weighs just 0.5 kg, the heaviest version is usually 10 kg. For strength training up to a load of 30 kg, dumbbells with discs made of cast iron are recommended. There are dumbbells where the discs are firmly welded to the bar, or dumbbell bars with interchangeable weights.

What to look for when buying dumbbell bars?

The main distinctions for dumbbell bars are: Length, shape, diameter of the weight plate receptacle or hole, grip width or inner dimension of the barbell bar, width of the weight plate receptacle, grip diameter of the barbell bar. The weight of the bar can also play a role in the purchase.

Whether the workout is at home or in the gym: Length, hole diameter and type of lock are crucial when choosing the bar and can significantly determine the effectiveness of the dumbbell workout. When increasing the weight of the workout, it is important to include the bar's own weight in the total weight. Since the dead weight of the bar can vary, depending on the model and supplier, it is important to always ask about it. This information helps with regular weight increases and ultimately leads to effective and controlled muscle building.

What lengths are there for dumbbell bars?

The length of the dumbbell bar has a great influence on the workout. Depending on the bar size, the dead weight of the bar varies. The longer the bar, the more dead weight it has. In addition, there is the weight of the weight plates. The barbell and weight plates add up to the total weight of the workout.
Depending on how long the dumbbell is, this will affect the surface area per side. The inner grip dimension also depends on the dumbbell length.

Basically, a distinction is made between dumbbell bar and barbell bar.

Dumbbell bars are offered in sets of 2 in order to be able to perform a workout on both sides. They are available in 3 different lengths. Depending on the model, dumbbell bars with additional discs can weigh up to 136kg.

Barbell bars are available in 8 different lengths with a maximum load capacity of 60 to 680kg.

The SZ bar or curl bar, with its length of 120cm, belongs to the category of barbell bars, but its special shape makes it significantly different from the classic straight version. Due to its SZ-shaped bend, the bar is ideal for a joint-friendly training of the arms. Depending on the model, it has a net weight of 7-10 kg and has a maximum load capacity of 180-272 kg.

What are the hole diameters of dumbbell bars?

The hole diameter indicates which version of weight plates fits on the bar and refers to the diameter of the plate holder. Generally, a distinction is made between standard and Olympic size. Both model types are available in the short and long bar versions.

Standard size dumbbell bars have a 30 mm hole diameter and can be equipped with all common 30/31 mm weight plates. The weight plates have a compact size, which makes loading or changing the plates particularly handy. In addition, the standard plates can be easily stored and are therefore ideal equipment for home training at home.

Olympic bars have a hole diameter of 50 mm and are suitable for discs with a diameter of 50/51 mm. Olympic discs have a lower weight tolerance and are larger than the standard version, which is why they are more often used by bodybuilders and triathletes in professional weight training. Due to the higher weight that the bar can be subjected to, it has ball bearings. The ball bearing vouches for the advantage that the bar balances itself independently and provides stability even at extremely high weights.

Which locking systems are available for dumbbell bars?

The various locking systems are available for both the dumbbell bar and the barbell bar. In principle, a distinction is made between screw and clamp closures.

Dumbbell bars with clamp locks have a smooth receptacle on which weight plates can be quickly and easily changed and attached. Spring locks are simply pushed onto the weight receptacle and prevent the discs from wobbling around.

Star fasteners require a thread for attachment, onto which they must be screwed. This method of attachment is more time-consuming, but provides a greater hold for the weight discs. The thread prevents lateral slipping and provides high safety during weight training, which is especially helpful for fitness beginners.
