What makes an e-trekking bike?
With trekking bikes, the name says it all. Not for nothing are the bikes also known as touring bikes. As such, they are benevolent all-rounders for long tours on changing surfaces. Compared to e-race bikes and e-mountain bikes, which focus on speed, agility or maximum off-road capability, e-trekking bikes are designed for maximum comfort and relaxed cycling on short and long distances. Responsible for this is not only a relaxed frame geometry but also an additional portion of comfort in the saddle, handlebars, hand grips as well as a well adjusted suspension fork. Thanks to well-profiled yet slim tires, the all-round e-bikes are at home on asphalt as well as on gravel and forest paths. Precise derailleur gears with up to 30 speeds and a lightweight aluminum frame also ensure that you won't break a sweat even on crisp climbs. In addition, trekking bikes are already equipped in accordance with the German Road Traffic Licensing Regulations (StVZO) and are therefore fully roadworthy. For the necessary luggage transport, the e-touring bikes are often already equipped with a carrier or corresponding mounting devices for panniers.

Trekking e-bikes from renowned brands from sports bikes to cargo bikes
Which e-touring bike is right for you depends on the intended use. While classic trekking bikes are ideal for bike trips and the commute to work, compact versions like the e-bikes in the Upstreet series from Flyer are ideal for taking on vacation.
Thanks to small wheels and a compact frame, the bikes fit both on the bike rack and in the caravan. The range is rounded off by cargo trekking bikes. Even the smallest ones can explore the world comfortably. Click through our offer and discover your e-trekking bike from
Buying guide: What matters when buying trekking e-bikes
When buying a bike, it's important that it fits your needs perfectly. This is no different with the e-touring bike. Therefore, be sure to pay attention to the following points:
- Frame: As far as frames are concerned, manufacturers offer trekking bikes in three frame styles. The standard version is the so-called diamond or men's frame. This makes the bike somewhat lighter and ensures a stiffer and sportier ride with more propulsion.
In contrast, the women's or trapezoidal frame with a slightly deeper and thus more comfortable entry. However, bikes with this frame shape are somewhat heavier. The third frame in the group is the so-called deep-entry frame with a deep-drawn top tube. Such frames are ideal if you want to mount a child seat on the bike.
- Tires: E-trekking bikes have standard tire widths between 38 mm and 45 mm. On the one hand, this makes them narrow enough for fast progress and low rolling resistance. On the other hand, they offer a comfortable riding experience due to their volume. The somewhat coarser tread means they can also cope with light terrain.
The following applies: If you ride exclusively on asphalt, you can do without a coarse tread. Typical trekking tires are also characterized by high puncture resistance. You should also consider this criterion when buying replacement tires.
- Brakes: Today, trekking bikes are almost exclusively equipped with powerful disc brakes. Compared to hydraulic rim brakes, these have the advantage that they respond faster in wet conditions and show better braking behavior. The following applies: The heavier the bike (including load), the larger the diameter of the brake discs should be, so that they do not overheat on downhill rides.
- Saddle: If you want to sit comfortably and firmly in the saddle for long hours in nature, you need just that - a good saddle. An e-trekking bike is characterized by a comparatively soft and wide saddle that optimally cushions the sit bones. Another typical feature is the ability to adjust the saddle in fine increments. Some bikes even have suspension saddles that absorb bumps in light terrain and thus protect the buttocks and back.
- Handlebars: The subject of handlebars is an individual matter, this applies especially to the design. Whether wide handlebars, narrow handlebars, round handles or ergonomically shaped handles - that is entirely up to you. What is important is that you set the height correctly. With some e-bikes, this even works with the on-board tools during a tour thanks to the adjustable stem.
- Battery: A strong battery is of great importance for long tours. For an e-trekking bike, this should be as large as possible. Battery capacities of approx. 500 to 650 kWh are common for our e-trekking bikes. If you need even more range for long tours or a cycling vacation, you can purchase a second battery from our range of accessories.
