Indoorcycle

Indoor Cycle - professional cycle training at home or in the gym

At first glance, the indoor cycle looks like any other ergometer. Only on closer inspection does the supposed home trainer for strengthening the cardiovascular system and general fitness reveal itself to be an indoor bike with uncompromisingly sporty origins. The indoor bike, also called indoor cycle, spinning bike, speed bike or indoor bicycle, comes directly from cycling and simulates riding on the road like no other exercise bike can. This quickly creates a real racing bike feeling. You can also feel this in the intensity of your cardio workout when you really get going on your indoor bike. Anti-slip pedals or pedals with hooks or baskets give you the necessary grip on your indoor bike. On some speed bikes you can also train with your usual SPD pedals thanks to road bike shoes.

Because this particular variation of the ergometer has a large flywheel mass that is rigidly connected to the pedals: the bike has no freewheel at all. The system was developed many years ago for professional or semi-professional cycling and quickly found a permanent place in the fitness studio. If cycling in general is your discipline, then an indoor bike is the perfect bike to train on in your living room. Increase your fitness and train stamina and strength like a pro.

Further information and frequently asked questions

How do indoor cycles work?

Except for the lack of a freewheel, the principle of the indoor cycle is identical to that of the exercise bike. However, you will quickly notice that indoor bikes are often reduced to the essentials. Due to the lack of a freewheel, indoor cycles require braking systems that function analogously to those of a bicycle. The drive system is also similar to that of a real bicycle. Depending on the model, you can choose between chains and Poly-V belts. The latter are quieter and therefore more suitable for training at home or indoors.

Is an Indoor Cycle compatible with my app?

You won't find an LCD display including a training computer and heart rate monitor on classic models. You can of course buy a bike computer and pulse watch in addition to your bike - or use an app for your cycling training. Newer models also offer you the option of tracking or supporting your training on the spinning bike via an app using a Bluetooth interface. You can use your favourite fitness app for this. Many speed bike manufacturers also offer their own app for indoor cycling, which has been specially developed for their bikes.

Are speed bike and indoor bike the same?

There are many names for the bikes you may already know from classes at the gym/fitness centre . The terms indoor cycle, indoor bike or speed bike all mean the same thing and are clearly differentiated from the ordinary exercise bike or ergometer. Their sporty handlebars and raised posture make for a particularly authentic riding experience, close to the racing bike. As bikes for specific training, indoor cycles are clearly geared towards professional requirements. Accordingly, they also offer you the opportunity to develop your full performance during training and to increase your fitness.

What setting options does a speedbike offer me?

Many adjustment options allow you to exactly imitate the geometry of your bike for the road and thus also enjoy the familiar riding experience during indoor training. Some models even allow you to set the individual Q-factor. This is the distance between the outer surfaces of the two pedal cranks. The Q-factor makes indoor bikes more biomechanically efficient because the hips, knees and feet are correctly aligned and the muscle force exerted on the pedals is increased. Thanks to these precise adjustment options, you can stay in training even in winter, regardless of the weather, and start the new season well prepared thanks to the Indoor Cycle.

Which Indoor Cycle is right for me?

For an efficient workout, an indoor bike with minimal equipment is basically enough. You don't need more than that for intensive indoor cycling sessions. However, if you also attach a lot of importance to the design and certain technical features of your speed bike, you should take a closer look. All the indoor bikes we offer are good value for money. It's up to you to decide which model or manufacturer is the right bike for you.

Which manufacturers of indoor cycles are recommended?

Bowflex, Finnlo, Tunturi, Hammer, Life Fitness, Schwinn, Sportstech, Asviva, X-TREME, BH Fitness - the list of manufacturers of these bikes is long, although it is far from complete. Many buyers of indoor cycles often opt for the model they also know from the gym or from fitness classes. The advantage is obvious: you are already well acquainted with the bike and its functions, e.g. you know that it is compatible with your preferred app for tracking your own workout. Since all brands in our online shop offer bikes that help you progress in your training, we don't want to make a clear recommendation. If you know what you want in terms of features and design, you can quickly find the right bike for your training with an eye on your budget and with the right price/performance ratio.
