Cuffs & Weight Vests

Cuffs and weight vests - setting stimuli where it counts

Building muscle requires the right muscular stimuli - which is why athletes like to work with dumbbells and machines. There, the load can be flexibly adjusted and muscle growth is stimulated. To ensure that the adapted training stimulus can be transferred to a wide variety of sports and exercises, there are weight vests and cuffs. These allow additional weights to be placed on the body and joints without restricting mobility.

Cuffs and weight waistcoats - stimulate where it counts

Building muscle requires the right muscular stimuli - which is why athletes like to work with dumbbells and machines. There, the load can be flexibly adjusted and muscle growth is stimulated. Weight waistcoats and cuffs are available so that the adapted training stimulus can be transferred to a wide variety of sports and exercises. These allow additional weights to be placed on the body and joints without restricting mobility.

How do cuffs and weight waistcoats work?

The way body-hugging weights work is very simple: by adding weight, they increase the weight load during exercise, providing an increased training stimulus for exercises that would otherwise only require body weight. This can be running training, for example, but this form of additional load is also optimal for squats, push-ups or shadow boxing. This is because the increased weight ensures faster and more efficient muscle growth and increases the load on the cardiovascular system. This makes the workout stronger and more dynamic, but the exercises can still be designed for flexibility and speed.

What should I look for when buying a weight waistcoat or cuff?

Key to a comfortable workout is the correct fit of the waistcoat and cuff. This is quite easy with cuffs, because they can be adjusted very easily to the wrist or ankle - usually with Velcro fasteners. With weight waistcoats, it is essential to ensure a correct fit. The waistcoat must sit close to the body and this requires a tight fit despite flexible fasteners. This is the only way to ensure that the waistcoat does not chafe even during fast exercises and sits as close to the body as a second skin. After all, that is precisely the aim of waistcoats and cuffs: to naturally increase body weight. To achieve this, a tight fit is essential so as not to exert any leverage on joints and spine. Additional padding on the inside also increases wearing comfort without having a negative effect on fit and stability. Materials must also be particularly breathable for external weight waistcoats and cuffs, as training is highly sweat-inducing.

How much weight does a weight waistcoat need?

Weight waistcoats, as well as trousers and some cuffs, often come in modular systems. If you are unsure how much weight is really necessary for training or if you need body weights that are as flexible as possible, you should go for modularity. The weights are simply inserted into the waistcoat and can be varied freely up to a maximum weight. This modularity is standard for waistcoats, but rather the exception for joint weights. It is therefore important to anticipate exactly what the cuffs will actually be used for. Dynamic exercises like boxing, for example, tend to need cuffs with an additional thumb loop and lighter weight so as not to compromise speed. Sprints, on the other hand, benefit most from weight waistcoats to increase the bare weight load while maintaining the same range of motion.

Ideal for aerobics, sprinting, boxing and bodyweight training

Sports like calisthenics, aerobics or CrossFit have made training with your own body weight more important again. The fact that this is also best achieved with additional weight may seem contradictory - but weight cuffs and waistcoats show that dynamics and efficient muscle building do not have to be mutually exclusive.
