Brake levers are attached to the handlebars and are responsible for operating the brakes. Attached to the brake lever are the cables or hydraulic lines, which then trigger the braking on the brake itself. Brake levers are available in many different designs and price ranges. Depending on the type of bike (road bike, trekking bike, mountain bike, etc.) and brake type (V-brake, hydraulic brake, etc.), the appropriate brake levers are available. These should always be fitted to match the brake, as short levers are used for particularly strong brakes, but long brake levers are used for weaker ones, so that the braking effect is thereby increased.
