Chainrings

Chainrings are the heart of the bicycle drive and without this great invention riding would not be possible. The choice of the right chainring depends, of course, on the type of gear and in which area the bike is used.

Replace chainring

The exchange of a chainring is the ideal opportunity not only to improve the shifting quality and save weight, but also to spice up the wheel design. When buying a new chainring, it is important to pay attention to the correct pitch circle spacing. Only then can you be sure that the pedal crank also fits correctly on the blade. An important difference is also whether the chainring is intended for shifting operation with a corresponding front derailleur or for single chainring setups. Last but not least, you should pay attention to whether the blade is built for the inner or outer position on the crank.

When buying you should in any case not save in the wrong place. Because a cheap chainring is usually not individually replaceable, more susceptible to wear or even breakage. Therefore, always pay attention to the quality.

The best material

The chainring is usually made of steel, duralumin or quite rarely titanium. There is even a special variant made of carbon. Either the chainring is made entirely of carbon, or you take so-called precision chainrings, which are usually CNC milled and are only covered with carbon.

There are also chainrings in a variety of colors, because most materials can be dyed or anodized. So there is also something individual for every taste.

Very important is the regular control of the individual teeth. Depending on the material, these wear faster or slower, but for your own safety, you should check after each ride whether the teeth are still optimally integrated into the chain or whether they already show signs of wear. Aluminum is of course more susceptible to this than steel, but it is lighter.
