Road bikes - Become one with the road

Do you want to blaze swiftly across the asphalt, effortlessly fly up crisp climbs and work optimally on your athletic performance? Then a road bike is exactly what you need. For over 100 years, the road bike with its unique riding characteristics has stood for purist riding fun without unnecessary ballast. No matter if you want to get a taste of road cycling or if you have sportive ambitions for everyman races and triathlons - we have the right road bike for you at attractive prices.

Fast and agile in everyday life and sports

Since the start of the first Tour de France in 1903 at the latest, the popular sport of road cycling was born. The main characteristics of racing bikes have hardly changed in the past 100 years. A light, torsionally stiff frame, narrow tires, precise gear shifting and, last but not least, the characteristically curved handlebars are still the essence of the racing bike. Yet it is precisely these characteristics that have made the road bike so popular today, both as a piece of sports equipment and as an everyday companion. No other type of bicycle is designed for efficient propulsion as much as the road bike. This makes road bikes the ideal choice for anyone who wants to keep fit, go on long tours in picturesque landscapes or train ambitiously. But the road bike also knows how to convince in everyday life. The combination of smooth steering, minimal weight and direct propulsion allows you to reach top speeds in traffic without much effort. Rolling along in traffic becomes child's play with a road bike. At the same time, biting brakes ensure maximum safety even in tricky situations. By attaching appropriate reflectors and approved lighting equipment, every road bike even meets the requirements of the StVZO in no time. Click here for our bike accessories.

Road bikes for beginners, advanced and cycling professionals

A good bike is the basis for the joy of riding on narrow tires. But nobody has to spend a fortune for his first racing bike. Even for beginners, we offer high-quality road bikes from Cube or Kross, which already shine with powerful disc brakes, lightweight aluminum frames and a stylish design. Our selection in the medium price segment for advanced and ambitious hobby athletes is even larger. For the sports bikes from Cube, Scott, BMC, Koga, Kross and Co., high-precision shifting groups are just as much a standard feature as various carbon parts for minimal weight. Our range is rounded off by genuine racing machines from manufacturers such as Kross and BMC. Equipped with high-quality assemblies, aero wheels and full carbon frames, the sports equipment is in no way inferior to the racing machines of the pros.

Which racing bike suits me?

Today, there is no longer one racing bike. Racing bikes are now optimally tailored to the needs of athletes. This applies not only to the design and ergonomics, but also to the riding characteristics for specific purposes. The spectrum ranges from all-rounders such as the endurance racing bike to thoroughbred racing machines with an aggressive riding position to time trial bikes.

Find out which road bike suits you best:

Endurance Road Bike:

The endurance road bike is now the most common type of road bike. This type is characterized by a more upright seating position and mostly 28 - 32 mm wide tires, which significantly increases the ride comfort compared to pure racing bikes. In return, the more upright riding position increases drag, which makes endurance bikes somewhat slower than race and aero bikes. Endurance road bikes are ideal for long tours, for routes with frequently poor road conditions and as sports equipment for compensatory sports without major racing ambitions.

Race racing bike:

With the classic race racing bike, the name says it all. It is fast, light and compact, making it ideal for top speeds and racing. In addition to a very stiff frame and mostly 23 mm or 25 mm wide tires, it is characterized by an aggressive riding position that requires a high level of torso stability. If you have sporty ambitions and are frequently on mountainous routes, the race road bike is the perfect choice.

Aero road bike:

In many characteristics, the aero road bike is similar to the race road bike. However, as the name suggests, this particular design is geared toward minimizing air resistance. In addition to a streamlined frame and aerodynamic attachments from the seatpost to the stem, this also includes the high wheel flanks. This makes the aero road bike ideally suited for high speeds and thus maximum riding pleasure in flatter terrain. The aero road bike is also ideal for classic bike races or participation in short triathlons. But beware: Due to the special design, the bikes are more susceptible to crosswinds.

Triathlon & Time Trial Bike:

Triathlon and time trial bikes focus on minimal weight and riding comfort. Even more than the aero road bike, these bikes are designed for maximum aerodynamics. These special bikes are therefore used almost exclusively for triathlon training and competitions. Those who pursue the sport of triathlon ambitiously reach for the triathlon or time trial bike.

What is the difference between road bikes, cyclocross bikes and gravel bikes?

The classic road bike reaches its limits wherever the asphalt ends. However, more and more cyclists don't want to limit themselves to the road, but also want to ride on gravel tracks, forest trails, as well as on easy terrain. This is easily possible with cyclocross bikes and gravel bikes. These bikes feature similar frame geometry and riding characteristics, but have details adapted to riding off paved roads. These include, among other things, particularly wide tires, some of which are even equipped with tread for maximum traction. The riding position is also significantly more upright, which improves handling off-road. Gravel bikes in particular are thus true all-rounders for anyone who wants to be sporty on the road, but doesn't want to commit to their route. It is thus an alternative to fitness bikes and mountain bikes.

Which gear ratio is ideal for me?

No matter whether gear groups from Shimano, SRAM or Campagnolo are installed: Decisive for maximum riding pleasure with the road bike is the right gear ratio or composition of the shifting group. While bikes with 2-speed or compact cranks are lighter, road bikes with 3-speed cranks offer a significantly higher gear selection. This benefits beginners in particular, as well as athletes who ride in particularly mountainous regions. The sprocket package should also be optimally matched to your needs. While an 11-23 cassette is suitable for far advanced cyclists as well as for the flat country, an 11-28 or 11-32 cassette offers ideal for beginners and relaxed riding in mountainous terrain due to the large gear steps.
